Sometimes It's Just Too Easy

Red, meet Neck. Again:
As early as mid-January, the Witts knew their second child was a boy, and they knew his name would be Saban.

That's right, Saban Hardin Witt, who was born Tuesday at about 5 p.m. in Decatur General Hospital, is named after Alabama head football coach Nick Saban.
...

The Witts of Hartselle named their first child, who is 23 months old, Tyde Timothy Witt. He's already attended several Alabama football games.

No mention whatsoever of either of the "Witts" ever having attended a single class at UAT, much less graduating, of course.

Sidewalk alums naming their kids after a football team (misspelling it along the way) and a coach who hasn't even had a spring game yet. Like I said, sometimes it's just too easy.

  1. This reminds me of an aquaintance of mine from the early 80s. At the time I was working for a "Major Retail" company in Columbus, MS, slowly climbing the retail corporate ladder. I graduated from Auburn in '76 with a degree in Personnel Management, so I was actually using my degree.
We received word that we would get a new auto department manager from Montgomery, AL. Upon his arrival and introduction, it was learned that he was a native of Montgomery and had lived there all of his life. He attended only junior college and vocational school for auto mechanics (which is fine if you are going to work on autos). He was a rabid Alabama Football Fan. He did not care for basketball, baseball, or softball or any or the other so called minor sports. This struck me as some what odd since the first time he had ever been to, or for that matter through Tuscaloosa, was the day he moved to Columbus, MS. He probably couldn't find T-town on a map unless it had a picture of the Bear on it to guide him to glorius city.

On another note, however, at a later time in my career, I had the "pleasure" to work in Tuscaloosa for almost four years (we won all the football games and most of the basketball and baseball games those years). While there I worked with a friend from my hometown who had been a life-time Alabama fan, yet once again did not attend UAT, he went to Miss. State. I guess his grades were too good to get in to 'bama, huh?
These are just two examples of instances I've encountered in the past thirty years; there are many, many more.
    Godspeed and War Eagle!!!

  2. The flat irony of someone who supports a school where so many students live in trailer parks calling Alabama redneck is simply amazing.

  3. And one more thing (re: smokinq72) – I graduated from South Carolina. Why? Not everyone has the money to attend out-of-state.

But then, since half of Georgia occupies the Plains, I guess the nouveau riche have to waste their cash somehow.

  5. This think about those Auburn students, Newspaper Prick, is that unlike the vast hordes of uat rednecks who couldn't fine either campus on a map, they'll never live in a trailer again after graduation.
